For the first time in over thirty years, Birkenstock named a new model after a Japanese city – and it wasn't by chance. Birkenstock Kyoto carries the name of Japan's cultural and historical heart, perfectly aligning with its character: seamlessly blending the old with the new, an athletic look with the traditional comfort of Birkenstock. History: First Japanese Name in 34 Years
Kyoto was introduced by Birkenstock in 2020 – it was the first model to bear the name of a Japanese city in approximately 34 years. The name perfectly captured the character of the silhouette, which combines athletic design with a suede upper into one smooth line suitable for everyday wear without losing comfort.
