The Veja Dekkan takes its name from a lava plateau in India and combines Veja’s eco-conscious materials with Vibram’s innovative technology. The result is a technical walking sneaker that handles both trails and everyday wear in the city. This marks a clear step for Veja away from its classic lifestyle segment and towards genuine outdoor use.

History: a collaboration with Vibram for trails and the city

The Dekkan was launched in 2023 as the result of a collaboration between Veja and Vibram, the world leader in technical soles for hiking and trekking. The shoe was designed as a hybrid – intended to perform just as well on the trail as it does in the city – and takes its name from the Dekkan plateau in India. This is one of Veja’s most significant steps towards technical outdoor footwear, moving beyond the classic lifestyle range on which the brand has built its reputation.

Technology: Vibram outsole, Alveomesh and sugarcane-based EVA

The following features are what make the Dekkan technically suited to both trail running and everyday wear:

• Vibram outsole with Amazonian rubber: Developed jointly by both brands, it contains 30% Amazonian rubber and 25% rice husk waste – combining eco-friendly raw materials with Vibram’s technical expertise to ensure reliable grip on a variety of surfaces.
• Sugar cane EVA midsole: A cushioned midsole made from 70 per cent sugar cane, complemented by an insole combining sugar cane (57 per cent) and recycled polyester (16 per cent).
• Alveomesh upper: A lightweight upper made from 100% recycled polyester, ensuring breathability and durability on the trail.
• Thermoplastic polyurethane and rubber panels: These provide extra protection in high-wear areas of the shoe.

Durability and performance

Reviews on cushioning and traction are mixed – the outsole offers moderate cushioning, but the premium Vibram compound performs reliably even on ice and snow, with good grip on most surfaces.
