History: developed for elite adventure racers

Between 2003 and 2005, Salomon's designers and engineers collaborated directly with elite adventure racers to develop a shoe that can handle fast running, walking, climbing, and cycling across diverse mountain terrain. The result of intensive testing was the 3D Chassis technology – a flexible, cushioned plate in the midsole that balances stability with flexibility on uneven surfaces.

The XA Pro 3D model entered the global market in spring 2005. • 3D Advanced Chassis: A rigid thermoplastic (TPU) frame embedded between the midsole and outsole that controls foot flex and adds torsional stiffness – preventing foot twisting on uneven surfaces and providing stability close to that of a lightweight hiking shoe.

The XA Pro 3D is among the most durable trail shoes on the market – while typical trail models last around 300–500 km, users report a lifespan of 700–1100 km for the XA Pro 3D, in some cases even several years of regular use on trails and in the city. The Contagrip outsole typically outlasts the upper of the shoe.
